Ingredients
- 3 Cups Flour
- 1.5 Cups Salt
- 1.5-2 Cups Flour
- 4 Tbsp. Cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. Cloves
- 2 Tbsp. Ginger
- Vegetable or Olive Oil

Instructions to Make the Gingerbread Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments
Combine the Ingredients
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees
- Mix Flour, Salt, Water, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Ginger in a mixing bowl until combined

Roll Out the Dough
- Spread Flour on a clean surface to roll out the dough. Placing parchment paper on the surface will make for easier cleanup.
- Roll out the dough using the rolling pin to about 1/4 inch thick.

Make the Ornament Shapes
- Cut out the desired shapes using the cookie cutters. I used a variety of different Christmas cookie cutters but you can also just use the gingerbread man shape.
- Place the cut out shapes on a baking sheet. Before putting them in the oven, use the drinking straw to poke a hole in the top of the ornament. This is where you will string the twine through to hang the ornament. Try to fit as many ornaments as possible onto the baking sheet. They will not expand, so there is no need to worry about overcrowding.

Bake
- Bake for 2-4 hours checking every so often to see if they have hardened. The goal is to slowly dry them out. You can also simply leave the cookies out for several days to dry out if preferred.
- Allow them to cool on a cooling rack.
- Repeat steps 3-8 until all of the dough has been used to make ornaments.

Decorate
- The salt will rise to the top while baking, making the ornaments lighter in color. If you desire a darker color, rub oil onto the ornaments using a cotton ball or paper towel.
- Use twine, ribbon, hooks, or any other desired material to hang the ornaments on your tree.

Notes
1. The ornaments can be painted to further decorate them once they are cooled.
2. These ornaments can be kept in an airtight container or bag to use for several years.
3. Gingerbread salt dough ornaments make a fantastic homemade gift!
