This easy, homemade Fire Cider recipe is an ancient herbal remedy that can help boost your immune system. Full of powerful ingredients with many health benefits, including: probiotics, Vitamin C, and antibacterial properties, this simple recipe is exactly what you’ll want this cold and flu season.

There have been multiple years that my family and I have spent the majority of the holiday season ill. We love visiting family during the holidays and inevitably catch something that then travels from person to person. The sickness cycle seems to last forever and this year I am determined to give us the best chance possible to beat the illnesses before they start!
Homemade fire cider is one of the herbal remedies I have decided to try this year to prepare our immune systems for the annual ambush. Versions of this ancient herbal remedy have been around forever. The official term “Fire Cider” was coined by Rosemary Gladstar in the 1970s and many herbalists have made their twist on the concoction since then.
This fiery recipe is packed full of potent ingredients that aid digestion and immune support, including: apple cider vinegar, raw honey, turmeric, ginger, jalapeños, onion, and more. Making a large batch can last up to a year and is the perfect thing to sip throughout the next cold and flu season.

Fire Cider FAQs
Benefits of Fire Cider
Immune System Support: The ingredients in fire cider have many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidant properties, antimicrobial properties, and antibacterial properties that can help aid in fighting off cold and flu symptoms. Many of the ingredients are also high in Vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. The potent and somewhat spicy nature of the drink can also relieve congestion.
Digestion Aid: Apple Cider vinegar and some of the other ingredients in fire cider have been shown to have helpful probiotics which promote healthy gut bacteria and can aid in digestion. It can also reduce inflammation which is helpful for digestion as well. The ginger in Fire Cider is especially known to help tummy troubles such as nausea.

Risks of Fire Cider
While Fire Cider is safe to drink for most people, there are some potential side effects:
Upset Stomach: Because this drink can be spicy and has potent ingredients, it can upset some stomachs, especially if you already struggle with things like heartburn or ulcers. It is best to start drinking Fire Cider slowly, a little bit each day, to see how it could affect you.
Tooth Enamel: The vinegar in Fire Cider has the potential to wear on tooth enamel. To prevent this, it is best to dilute the drink with water, tea, juice, or another drink of choice.
Honey and Babies: Fire Cider is not safe for children under one year old because of the honey.
