Homemade gifts are so special. I always try to give at least a couple of homemade gifts every year. It adds a touch of sentimentality and shows how much you really care about the person with the time and effort given to the homemade gift. There is just nothing that beats the feeling of truly making something with love to give to a person you love.
Some homemade gifts take longer than others. I made sure to include a variety of gifts that can be done last minute and some that require more time and planning. All of the gifts included in this article are very affordable as well. No big, expensive equipment is needed for these homemade gifts, just some thought, time, and a whole lot of love!

Crafts as Homemade Christmas Gifts
There are so many options for crafty homemade gifts, depending on what crafts you prefer. One of my main hobbies at the moment is crochet, so I made several crochet pieces for the children in my life this Christmas.
This mobile I made for my youngest niece. I made one with suns for her older sister, so it seemed fitting for the younger one to have a night themed mobile. This homemade gift definitely took the most time, but it turned out so cute!

I also made coordinating headbands and bowties for all of the nieces and nephews this year so that everyone will look spiffy at church this Christmas! These pieces were pretty quick to make, so if you already have a background in crochet, they could be a last minute gift for the kids in your life.

The patterns for everything I made were easy to follow. I did not make the patterns myself, but I will link them below. If you want to see how I put the mobile together, check out the YouTube video linked above!

Food as a Homemade Christmas Gift
Food is another things that is always a welcome gift. It’s delicious and doesn’t add any clutter? Sign me up! Plus, the amount of love and care that you can taste in something homemade is beyond the value of anything you can buy from a store. There are so many ways to gift food and I am going to list a few of them here: Mixes in a Jar, Canned Goods, and Baked Goods.
Mixes in a Jar
There are so many types of kits in a jar: baking mixes, herbs, drink mixes. Basically, if it is a dry good/pantry staple, you can put it in a jar and gift it. This year, I decided to go with a couple of different baking mixes. Namely, brownie mix in a jar and chocolate chip cooking mix in a jar. I figured that everyone likes these options, so there is no way to go wrong. All that is needed is the dry ingredients, quart mason jars, and ribbon to decorate the jar and add the instructions. It’s so easy to make, making it a great last minute gift. It also looks adorable in anyone’s pantry!

Canned Goods and Baked Goods
Nothing beats homemade food. Absolutely nothing. If you have a garden, canning food throughout the year to give as gifts on Christmas is a great idea. We have gifted jams, sauces, and pickles that have all turned out amazing. This year, we are bringing our canned apple filling to make pies. We used the Ball Apple Pie Filling Recipe. We just opted not to add the thickening agent at the time we canned it because we prefer to add that when we make the pie.

To go along with the canned apple filling, I have also prepared homemade pie crusts as one of the baked goods. I have tried this homemade apple pie and let me tell you, this is the best apple pie I have ever eaten! Additionally, I’ll be bringing some loaves of sourdough bread, both a regular loaf and a chocolate loaf. These are also always a hit! I have been working on the chocolate loaf for quite some time now and I hope to have that recipe up soon. If you can’t think of anything else, gift them food!
Personalized Calendar as a Homemade Christmas Gift
A personalized calendar is something I put together every year. I use Walgreens to make it, so it is quick, easy, and affordable. It is usually ready the next day, so it is a great last minute gift. Walgreens also tends to have deals and coupons leading up to Christmas, so I am always able to get these calendars half-off.

I simply gather photos from the previous year and add them to the corresponding month in the calendar. I make one for our little family and one for each set of grandparents. The calendar for my husband’s side of the family has all of the grandkids on that side, and the same for my family. Gathering all of the photos takes the most time, but once they are in the Walgreens app, it is very user friendly and makes a beautiful gift that they will cherish all year long!
Time as a Homemade Christmas Gift
If you truly are out of ideas and have no money, or you have forgotten altogether and don’t have time to put something together, then gift your time!
This can look however you want it to. Give your time by going to your loved one’s house and spending time with them. Give your time by cleaning their car or a room in their house. Give your time by offering to babysit for free so they can have a night out. This gift is so versatile and can truly be adjusted to meet the needs of the receiver. You don’t have to come empty handed this Christmas. If all else fails, give time!
